have a welded stroker at 5" with a 2" rod pin. makes about 55 hp at 540 pto. turn it about 2600, will pull down on dyno to about 300 hasn't broke yet. why worry about 3 3/4" bore?

have had a few pullers say that they have broken cranks in straight 77,s with 3 3/4 pistons....dont know whether they were put together right or not..most say that when they went to a super crank they never had a problem anymore..i figured it might be due to the smaller rod journal dia. just figured i would get some input for those who know before i put this thing together..am operating on a budget and just want to have some fun but want to be a little competition rather than just a donation to the other members of the association...thanks for your comments and interest everyone on here has been very helpful

We have been pulling a 66 for quite sometime. We have had the camshaft reground for more bottom end torque. REALLY made a big difference. Might consider doing the same.

thanks for the input guys i had thought about getting a 550 crank cause the rod journals are bigger but didnt know if the rods were same length as 66 or not..or if the mains were same or not...not looking for lots of rpms or anything just pulling antique class 3 1/2 mph against allis's in the 3000 and 3500 lb class...those combine motors are hard to beat..cant out hp them so i figurd decent hp and some good tires and perhaps better balance tricks..thanks again

I was told the same thing with my 77. Been pulling it with no problems....Also know of a few 66"s up here with the 3-3/4 kit in them. Of course this IS just my opinion....

I wouldn"t be afraid of it myself. The crankshafts are steel forgings and the pistons are going to be lighter than the original cast iron ones.
