I got the Hart Parr Oliver Collector today and enjoyed all the pictures and reading Dean's article about the "2004 Century of Tractor Power Show". I also have a question for Dean or VADAVE about their front tire size on your 1655 Diesels. I switched from a narrow to a wide front this past summer and need something better looking than the 6.5 x 16 that I have now. I'm thinking 9.5X15 4 ribs are what I need. I have two goals over the next 2 years (1) to restore my 1655 D to the point where I can replace VADAVE's with it on my screen saver; and (2) purchase another 1655 D with High Speed and have it ready for the 2nd annual CVEC tractor ride in Charles City, IA in 2006.

I was at the Charles City show. Also, believe I've seen your tractor in IA, close to the tree nursery, right? FYI on tire size, I bought a new 1655 D years ago and it came with 11L-15 tri-rib Good Years on the front, 16.9-34 on the rear. I know some did come with the 9.5L-15 fronts.

Yes, In Ankeny. I think I will go with 9.5*15 and 9.5*16 on the high speed.

Does look kinda nice--I have it as a screen saver too.
Tire size: Fronts are 9.5 X 15 rears are 18.4 X 34
This will surprise you, the paint is John Deere green. I laid one of the old panels beside a John Deere and couldn't tell the difference so that's what I went with.
One thing I plan to change is the step. I'm not exactly tall at 5' 6" and it's a bit of a step so I'm going to add two level step similar to what someone put on my 1855. I know I haven't posted that one, it could use a paint job, among other things.

VADAVE:
I too am short plus back trouble and a bad hip. I took a piece if 2 in channel iron and bent it at a 90 degree angle and placed a flat plate on it. Then I ruffed it with the welder so as not to be to slick. I bolted this in front of the step on a 1600. It sure makes a difference when you only have to step up half that distance on the first step. I bolted it to the engine frame that already had the holes drilled and tapped for mounting impliments. As far as the green paint I painted this step with JD green as that was what I had on hand at the time. There is a slight difference but you have to look twice to tell. I have sense repainted the rear end housing and the 3Pt and a found what was called New Oliver green at a local farm store. Off hand I think it is made by Van Sickle. It was about half the price that the Oliver dealer charges. I dont know how it will hold up but I guess time will tell.

We had a guy with a 1750 and he added a second step so his wife could drive it. He make the step so it would swing kind of like the orignal 1800 steps. I had a buddie who pained his Oliver with 2 coats of Deere paint, why he had a connection less money then the third coat he used Oliver green.

The paint listed as Oliver Green (off NAPA or Agri Supply shelf) is just too dark. It's way darker then Meadow Green only thing I could figure it was for older tractors. When I compared John Deere to Meadow Green I could tell the difference, doesn't mean there isn't some.

There are three different Oliver green formulas from NAPA. About a year ago, NAPA went to a line called Crossfire. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I have done two tractors and a baler with the new formula. Color is different from before, and on the baler, was an exact match.
