Hey
Does anyone know if the Cockshutt Super 570 or any Cockshutt tractors of the "500" series for that matter were equipped with a differential lock? I see a pull type lever marked "engage" on my 570S's transmision and I was wondering if that was to engage a differential lock of some sort? I'm also wondering what this tank directly behind the drivers seat's backrest is for? Is it for the tractors hydraulic fluid or is it for something else? Thanks for your help in advance
Allan

The handle you are talking about is for the Hydraulics only at least on my 40. It moves a gear on the shaft that engages with the pump. Motor needs to be shut off. The shaft into the PTO turns all the time the engine is running.

Tank under the seat is hydraulic reservoir.

Most 30's and some 40's had the pump mounted on the engine. But most 40's and the rest of cockshutt's including all the larger 500 series had the pump in the trans with your little shift handle.

On the 500 series that lever controls the pto and
hyd. pump.

Allan,
No cockshutts were built with a diff. lock.
the handle on the trans is to engage your hyd. pump and pto drive. the tank you speak of could be something that was added on (do you have a picture) I have a 40 cockshutt with a tank behind
the seat. it was added on for a loader that was on the tractor. your hydraulic tank on the 570s is the box under the seat.Mike

I thought that the long lever attached directly to the side of the p.t.o. on or near the right hand side of the seat when looking from behind was the lever to engage the p.t.o.? The lever I speak of is one that is right on the floor I guess you could say near the brake pedals. it appears to be one you turn and then pull up? I'm not sure if I described that very clearly? Also where would one locate the hydraulic pump on this tractor?
thanks again
Allan

Diengaging the PTO and hydraulic pump puts less strain on the starter when starting the tractor in real cold weather. I f you did that then started the tractor and left it run a while then the engine would be warm and would start easier. If you try that you need to shut the tractor off before reingaging the PTO & hydraulic pump. It is not a clutch. A block heater is a lot nicer. Questions?

Hey
So if I disengage the p.t.o. and hydraulic pump with this lever, then start the tractor I have to shut it off again to re-engage this? Can I not just push in the clutch to re-engage?
thanks in advance
Allan

Allan: Mike has spelled it out correctly. Remember Cockshutt the peole with the original modern Live Power Take Off. Anytime the engine runs that shaft runs. merry Christmas. John

Allan,
John is right you have to shut the tractor off to
engage the lever. that shaft does not go through
the clutch it is driven right from the flywheel.
On the 40&50s when you engage with motor running it will shear the key in the driven gear on hyd. pump. I have not seen it done on 500s. Mike

Allan,
Yes the lever you speak of is the pto lever. but
you have to have the handle engaged on the trans.
for your pto to work. The engage handle is your accessory drive which is what drives your pto and
hyd. pump from the engine. the hyd pump is bolted
to the underside of the plate under your seat. Mike
