My "new" 2255 arrived today. Looks pretty good. Now I get to get busy and find front weights and duals. It has the hubs for axle duals so I have some options. One thing I notice is that the shielding around the engine is white--has anyone else seen this? Also there is a notch cut out of the frame to clear the solenoid on the starter--should I be worried at all.

The 2255 was built from 1972 through 1976. 2255 Serial number 266 782 was the last Oliver tractor built on Feb 13, 1976 in Charles City. The 2255 engine was changed from the model 3150 to the 3208 at tractor serial number 248 722. The easy way to ID the engine is the injection pump. 3150 had a inline pump vs the 3208 had a "V" design pump. The engine change was made because of emission regulations. Nice looking tractor for a Holiday Season present.

That is a good looking 2255. I would think it was repainted once and the person thought the white panels would look better covering the engine. It is an early one with a CAT 3150 isn't it? How many hours does the tractor have? I would not be to concerned of the notch in the frame. One of mine also had been cut out for solenoid replacement. The previous owner then tried to weld it back in without "VEE"ing the cut.The weld has cracks that never seem to cover with dust from all the vibration of the engine.
I would definitely check the two front engine mount and the four bellhousing support bolts to make sure they are tight. If they get loose that engine will torque in the frame and brake the input shaft of the trans.Just a suggestion.
You should be able to feel a big difference in power over your 1855 and 5 bottom plow.It should cruise in 4th direct. If it don't, then that CAT needs a little more fuel.which is easy to do.

Yep 3150. Early? I don't know--the serial number says it is a 1974. Previous owner said it had only 500 hours on an engine rebuild. It does run nice. Fun part is that the trucker let it run out of fuel so I have to figure out how to re-prime it--there is no hand pump. But then always want some reason to pull the side panels. I'll check the bolts.
The ends of the three point arms have been welded closed. I may look for new arms or not. The balls seem pretty loose. Once I start using it may just go with one of those quick connect devices (can't think of the name just now).

Just to clarify. It is not the truckers job to make sure it had enough fuel.

Your right; However he chose to let it run while he moved a hour and half to his next stop. When he got there it was out of fuel.
You think the seller was going to put more then a couple of gallons in--I don't.
I also think there was enough to put it on and take it off once or twice.
All that said I don't blame the trucker, he did a fine job. It was just unfortunate it ran out of fuel. In fact he had tried to add a little fuel because of the unusual actions he was doing, a line had come loose and he put it in one of the fender tanks. So either it leaked out or was unable to get to the main tank.

Make sure the batteries are up or put it ona battery charger.Put some fuel in the main tank(obviously). On top of the fuel filter housing there is an enclosed 9/16 nut that faces away from the tractor.Remove this nut and make sure there is nothing within a few feet that you wouldn't want fuel on.Crank the engine over with the starter till fuel spurts from this opening. Reinstall the nut. Crack open the throttle about 1/4 way and start cranking again, it will cough and run rough till all the air is out of the injection pump. You might as well change the fuel filter while it is empty to get that Dakota fuel out and have a fresh filter you know when was changed

Thanks. I really didn't know how to puge the system.
You bet, I'll change the filter. Eventually, before I start working it, all the filters and fluids will get changed.

About your 3 point arms. Weld them good and shut and get a quick coupler. I feel it it the best way to plow. I pull 8 bottom 598 White plows on land with my 2255. Putting the quick on coupler was the best thing to happen to the rear end since it was built.... Good luck, Marc

That sounds great, you can check on some stuff for us and it gives you an excuse to go poke around at an equipment place, sounds like a win win :-)

I really like poking around in the back where the bone tractors are. They had a 2255 and it looked like an 1855 sitting back there to be dismantled this past fall when I was up there. We bought a NH hay elevator off them a few months ago.

Next time you get over there see if they have a weight bracket for an 895 IH tractor and about 5 - 60# IH weights. I need to put some weights on the nose of the new CIH tractor we got for the poultry house.

No rush, I probably cant get up there till spring anyway.

Nice tractor. Haven't seen many big Olivers in the Pacific Northwest. Looks like the one on the HPOCA cover last magazine.

Looks good. What kind of notch is it? Whole section out of the frame or just a little ground off? I put a new soleniod on mine a few years ago not fun. Starter is worse. I would not worry much these frames is extreamly strong. I've never seen the white trim. Good luck.

The notch is about 3 inches high and 6-8 inches long, just about the size of the solnoid.

The tires are 23.4 X 38.

Yeah know what you mean.
1855 was my first and I thought it was big enough that I wouldn't need anything else. Shoot the neighbor borrowed it to move a building. Then I did two things. 1) Hooked onto a 15 foot no-till drill and it didn't move until I half unloaded it. 2) Hooked a 15 foot rolling harrow behind a 13 foot disc and it worked only OK. Boy was the 1855 working.
Then I took this new full time job so I have less time to work the fields and I have a excuse. New toy.
