Ball bearings in my oil pan :(

My 1957 Super 55 began making strange noises a couple years ago at which time I parked it until I could work on it. That time is now. When I removed the oil pan (to inspect the lower end - which I suspected to be the cause), I found the teeth to my cam gear - which is completely stripped out, and several small ball bearings (about the size of a BB). I have to wait until next week to tear into it any further, but I am really curious where the ball bearings could have come from. Also, I have found lots of sources for parts including engine kits, however none that list engine component parts such as the cam gear etc. Any ideas would be appreciated!

First guess for the bearings, thrust bearing on the governor. Also remember it is driven by the timing gear. I am not a kit person to start with so no help there. However I would go with a 3.625 sleeve & piston assembly. Wait untill the end of next week if no one responds but When I was involved with aftermarket parts for the Dana system (Perfect Circle & NAPA brands I had some catalogs that listed Waukesha timing gears . These would include quality manufactures such as Cloves & Hoof if I remember correctly.

I would say the ball bearings are from the governor. WB.

Not an Oliver guy. Opened home page this am and accidentally saw problem. My gut feel was the same as yours as there are no other balls in the engine.

Nice way to start the brousing on here today.
