I just picked up a nice and fairly light 80 inch snow blower that I am going to try on my stock super 55. I know its going to be a little big but I have faith in my oli. If by chance I need a few more ponies does anyone have performance tips for a super 55? Carbs, ignition, heads etc? that I could think about? My tractor appears completly stock with a little over 2000 hours on it. It has been converted to a 12 volt system Thanks for your help.

Dalen

My biggest gain came from 12v conversion, which means if I wanted more power I would try solid state ignition, and heavy duty wires. Maybe someone makes a platinum plug for these guys. Coupled with higher octane, you'll probably be fine. Keep the rev's up, that's 1800 for your PTO, I believe.

Up the octane level (91 or 92)in the fuel & bach the power valve out just a touch. Then make sure the PTO clutch is adjusted correct & use Reverse 1 you ought to be in good shape to make the snow fly.

Thanks for the tips, I will give it a try, neighbors are a little close to pull the muffler but I think I'll try the power valve and high octane. Any more tips would be great appreciated. I'm not against doing some motor work or even trying a different motor altogether if anyone has any ideas or thoughts.

Thanks again

Dalen

First let me tell you I have nothing to do with this company. Look in the articles section to the left of the YT webpage. There is an article about putting an electronic ignition in the distributor of a 55. To this day it is the best $100 I have spent on my 55. seemed like I strapped on 5 more horses. If I remember right the co. was Genesee.
haven't filed or set points for three years now.

Remember if your engine is stock it has a 3.500 bore and 144 cubic inch displacement. Later 550 tractors have a 3.625 bore and 155 cubic inch displacement. Of course other things changed too. Valve size, intake manifold carburetor, etc.
Make more than one pass with your snow blower when the going gets tough.

A quick easy way to gain a little more HP is to remove the muffler and stright pipe it gains a little but not much. Also helps you go deff
