I needed to use the 3pt wood splitter today as we have quite a pile that needs split..... ...Anyhow I decided to put it on the 1850. I was supprised that it walked right through some of the hard stuff I know it wouldn"t have done if I was using the IH 706. I was wondering what type of flow and pressure the "50 series make? It has to be somewhat higher pressure than an IH, but I imagine they flow about the same as the 3" cylinder on the splitter didn"t seem to move any faster.

Still without a manual..... ...

If you are still without a manual, Order one from amazon.com. I ordered an I.T. manual for $23 and had it on my doorstep 3 days later.

Oliver Addiction in reply to TP from Central PA, 12-02-2004 18:13:30
That's how it starts TP. First it's "Let's try the Oliver on the wood splitter". Then it's "Let's try it on the disc". Then the bush hog, baler, plow, etc, etc. Pretty soon your other tractors will just sit around collecting dust.

This addiction has no cure. (Although many wives have tried.)

";^)

Hope you enjoy your 1850 as much as I do mine.

Well, we quit farming this year as we lost our rented ground to "Plant Houses 101"..... ...But my neighbors already have big ideas about me showing up over there.

I always wanted an Oliver..... ....Now I got one. I bet if Oliver would have refined some items they'd have sold alot of tractors. I don't think I'll be adding another one, unless it is a 1950 or 770D.

This 1850 I have still has to impress me in the field as I haven't used it yet for that. Remember I am an old school IH guy(Grin).

Mine started when I was trying to disc with an 8N, and was having traction problems. Was complaining to a neighbor, and he said, "I know how to fix that"- Took me out to the barn, started up his 77 diesel, and told me to hook the disk to it, park the 8N by the side of the field, and every time I make a round and go by it, think about how much more fun I'm having now. I haven't been without an Oliver since.

Pressure relief valve is set at 2000 PSI plus or minus 50 pounds. flow is dependent on Engine RPM. Pump is rated at 20 GPM at rated engine speed. However since all pumps are rated on theoretical displacement your flow will be a little less. How is that for a politcally correct answer? Questions/

You did not say how fast you were running the engines on either tractor so I have no idea what flow output is on either tractor when you are splitting wood. Remember flow is speed and pressure is force.

Some woodcutters were helping us clean up after a storm. They brought a woodsplitter that mounts on 3ph and wanted to know if we had a tractor that they could put it on. I put the splitter on an 800 Ford that had remote cyl.connections. It worked the cyl rather slow but the wood cutters said that it seemed to have more splitting power then their 3010 they had been using.Nothing against Olivers, just havnt had the opportunity to drive one.
