A guy my dad knows dropped by our farm the other day to scout for some deer while I was out putting back together an old disc. He stopped to talk to me for a few minutes and eventually mentioned that he had an old Oliver 60 baler and about 15 other pieces of equipment. He said he would sale the baler for 100 bucks and I could have all the other pieces of equipment if I wanted them. He said the baler was purchased new by his father and used every year until his father's death last year. I know that these models were particulalry troublesome as far as the knotters go, but I'm not really looking to do a lot of baling. He says that's in excellent shape and didn't give them a lot of trouble. I'm mainly interested as a collector of all types of antique farm equipment and I might put up a few bales now and then. Now to me 100 bucks seems very reasonable, but just out of interest what would be an average price that one of these balers might go for? I've heard as much as 500 for a good one and as little as 80 for a parts machine. Oh and just to let everyone know the extra pieces of free equipment include sickle bar mowers, hay rakes, plows, and an old horse drawn manure spreader.

Adam,
I'm in ohio and there are quite a few of the oliver balers around us. I have seen 4 or 5 of the 60s sell at auction this year and they have all pretty much been parts balers they have sold from $75 to $200. with the price of scrap you could get your money back if it does not work out. sounds like a good deal to me.
hope this helps. Mike
