Jasper I read a few of your other posts. If the engine was running good and revving up before you took the carb off, and now it's not. The carb is the suspect problem. I would not take the distributor out, focus on what you did to make the change. Take the drain plug out of the bottom of the carb, see if you have fuel flowing out, let it run out a while to make sure it is flowing from the tank.

I think you said something about the throttle position, move the linkage to the carb with it running, what does that do? Does putting the choke on do any thing? Have you got the hose to the breather unhooked? If not leave that hose off. If you can move the linkage to the carb butterfly and if doesn't rev, it sounds like the main jet is plugged.

Did you remove the brass tube that sticks out into the center of the carb when you cleaned it? It takes 3/8" or 5/16" socket to remove. How did you adjust the main jet for initial start up? Look at the basics first, WB.

Jasper: I though of this last night. Take an empty squirt oil can and put a little gas in it. Start the tractor and while it is running squirt a little gas in the air intake. If you do it right the engine should speed up indicating you have a restriction in the carburetor somewhere. How did you clean the carburetor/ Did you take all the little parts out? How do you have it set?
Will copy the information of your carburetor later this week. J.

hey fellows, had the carb off so many times now i can do it in my sleep, have tryed adding gas in the intake it shutes down as soon as gas hit intake.
pulled dist today weights may have been sticking alitle i gained about 50 to 100 rpms, everything i have done has help a little i can run it around the yard in 1st and 2nd gear now,i would guees its running about quarter thottle now, have a friend that has a 454 IH going to see if his carb will fit the 550 in hopes to rule out the carb for sure.main jet is about half turn out, fuel mix is about 1.25 turns out.have tryed the jets at any postion you can think of.thanks jasper

Well there is always a reason. Sometimes the basics are overlooked. Have you had the carb back off and apart the second time? WB.

If you left the carb off for any length of time , check for a mud dobbers nest in the manifold throat.
