Finally got time to change the oil and fliters in my 1755 diesel the other day. When I drained out the old oil it came out with about an extra gallon of diesel fuel.... Any ideas on where it may have came from? I put two new injectors in in the spring, it doesn't seem to be missing any. While using during the summer I had to add oil every now and then, it wasn't ever over full. Thanks!

Our massey 285 had the same thing the last 2 years in a row. Both times it was the lift pump. Second time it was warranty replacement.

So far you have been given 2 possiable problem areas. You did not say what you are using the tractor for or how long it took that amount of fuel to enter the pan. Another area for a slow leak is an engine that does not warm up to burn all the fuel. How is your thermostat, are you doing light work? do you have any blue grey smoke which is an indicator of not enough heat to burn all the fuel.

Yep, it's a roosa master. Nothing very hard, mowing with a New Idea 272 cutditioner, baling with a JD 336 baler, that's about all the "hard work" it's gotten this summer. It does have some blue gray smoke to it, not a whole lot, but it's there. The temp stays normal, I belive their was about 50 hours on the oil change.

Most of the time when the mechaical fuel pump fails you get a couple of gallon in a day. The Roosa seal will also cut into the brass tube in the pump. They can be relatively slow leakers or dump fuel. What you might try is remove the exhaust manifold, put your ear plugs in and see which cylinders emitt more of the blue gray smoke and then get back with us.

I have the new injectors in cyl 2&3. At idle 4 and 6 have a little smoke, at mid idle it seems to disapate, then again at high idle 5 smokes a bit. What would cause 2&3 to smoke at idle, but not at rpms?

My 1855 did the same thing. The local dealer asked a few questions about the tractor, and then suggested changing out the mechanical fuel pump on the right hand side. The oil level is steady now. Luckey for me the dealer was too busy to work on it. It was a cheap simple test. I hope you are this luckey.(I don't know if all 55 series have this pump or not ??)

Well if it has a roosa-master pump on it I'd guess that you have a bad shaft seal.
