this is my first tractor project and I can't get my hyd. to work. I've checked in the manual for capacity of the unit and I've put in 2.5 gallons and it is still not touching the dipstick how much does it hold? Thanks

You did not say if you had a single or double unit, but 5 quart should have been good. The hydraulic unit will need to come off. Remember to remove the long PTO shaft first. Questions?

How could he have put 2 1/2 gallons in the hydraulic unit already? It sounds like he may have the hydraulic and transmission/final fill points confused.

maybe I do, I put the oil in this unit that is under the dash in front of the seat with a single lever coming out of it, two hyd. hoses come out of the right side (if you are in the seat)and go to the back with pioneer fittings on them.

You may have a leak in the system or it was dry which isn't good. I looked in my manual and it doesn't say how much either. What part of MO are you in by the way. I have 3 77 also here in MO.
