I JUST FOUND A 550 WITH A FORWARD-REVERSE LEVER AS WELL AS THE REGULAR GEAR SHIFT--ACCORDING TO THE SHIFT PATTERN, IT GIVES YOU 4 FORWARD & 4 REVERSE SPEEDS---MY PARTS BOOK DOESN'T SHOW THIS TRANSMISSION SETUP--- WAS THIS AN OPTION FROM OLIVER OR AFTERMARKET ADD-ON ??--IT ALSO HAD POWER STEERING--I'M TRYING TO LOCATE THE OWNER--IF I GET IT, I WILL PROBABLY PART IT OUT DUE TO IT'S CONDITION---ANY REPLIES WILL BE APPRECIATED

Kent, it is a 2-44 sold by white but made by Oliver. You say you are parting it out? I need a steering gear box complete with the power steering motor mounted no top of it. Please reply if you are in a position to sell these items.

Thanks

R Tanner

The description sounds as if is an industrial 550. In the mid 60's Oliver manufactured the 550 with a 4-speed shuttle and heavier hydraulics. The tractor usually was equiped with the model 588 loader and model 613 backhoe. I remember one of the selling points that the Oliver rep made was the short time it took this machine to dig a grave. My cousin was an Oliver dealer at the time and he sold some of these units but I don't think he sold any to cemeteries or undertakers.

Sounds like it could be a White 2-44, an industrial vs. of the 550. Does it have a foot throttle?
