No oil going thru filter on 66??

I noticed after running my 1953 66 that the oil filter was not at all warm, as it would be if hot engine oil was passing thru it. I worked it for awhile and engine was definately up to temperature. Pulled the oil filter off after I got it back in the garage and there was very little to no oil. Then did a oil change and installed a new filter and it still doesnt seem like oil is going thru it. Can I have something wrong, like a bypass that is stuck open not allowing the oil to pass thru the filter? I am running a NAPA #1700 gold filter.
Thanks

The restrictor in the filter base is probably plugged. It is under the tube that sticks into the filter.

Had the same problem with 6 cyl 88d engine. Filter base and return hole in block were plugged with dirty oil and cotton-like stuff (probably from the old cotton filled filters). The engine still lubricates as ba stated, just no filtration thru the low psi by-pass system. Hopefully, the photo shows the plugged hole and the return passage depicted by a straw.

The filtering system on the engines of that period are of the "bypass" type. A metered amount of oil is allowed to flow through the filter and is dumped into the crankcase after it is filtered. If you have oil pressure, your engine should be lubricated.

Is the oil tube still in the filter base? Sometimes this tube sticks in old filter and gets discarded, this also causes low oil pressure.

Yes, tube is there. It's about 1/4" in dia and approx. 2" long, right in the center of the base, right? This is my first Oliver...
Thanks
