Has anyone ever changed the roller bearings on the PTO drive shaft. My PTO squeals pretty load when under load with a 6' brush hog. I've adjusted the clutch but it did'nt help. Though the bearings would be the next thing to check. Any tips on changing these or other suggestions to look at.

Chris, is this squeal a high pitched metallic sound indicative of a bad bearing? If so, you're probably right to at least check the bearing. If it is, however, a lower pitched whine that appears under load, you may have nothing to be concerned about. That sound is simply gear noise from the reduction gear of the pto unit. Probably getting a little worn. Spur gears will be noisy anyway, especially under load. Something else to possibly check. Make sure clutch is either adjusted enough or that your clutch discs are thick enough so that your throwout fork isn't contacting any rotating clutch part. This can happen with very badly worn clutches.

It might just be worn gears. I'm going to hold off on taking it apart and see if the noise gets any worse. I did adjust the clutch and there are now 15 brass shims in each of the three shim packs. There were no metal shims there when I adjusted it the first time. The clutch discs looked alittle more than an 1/8 inch thick. Thanks for the information.
