Oliver 60 belt pulley can't be disengaged

The belt pulley runs all the time except when the clutch is pushed in. I made sure the PTO was turned off thinking that it was under the same control. But that didn't work. Is there any way to turn it off or should I simply take the pulley off when not needed?

There is a seperate control to the belt which may have been removed from your tractor. If you look behind the rear curtain there should be a short lever the push rod used to hook to. With the tractor off, try to manually move this lever by hand to disengage it.

The belt pulley control lever will be on the left side behind the rear side panel. There should have been a straight steel rod running from the belt pulley gear mechanism through the dash with a knob on the end of it. Apparently someone removed it. Like Dennis H. said you should be able to move it by hand.

I have had an oliver 60for a number of years and the belt pully only disengages when the gearshift lever in in the midpoint position between the high and low range. The belt pully is also a two speed pully,when the gearshift lever is in the low range the speed is low and when thelever is in high range the speed is higher.

I looked at my tractor yesterday and I can't see any method of disengaging the pulley. I was also at a tractor show where someone was showing an Oliver 60. The exhibitor confirmed what Delbert said - that the only time the pulley is in neutral is when the gear shift is settled in between the two ranges. As soon as the tractor is put in gear the pulley is engaged.
