Greetings all. Row Crop and Super 88s are typically king when it comes to tractor pulling in their respective classes, and are even more lethal with pressed steel rear wheels in lighter classes. The question has thus arisen, and protest formally put forth, from the local JD boys who can't stand to be showed up or beaten (it sure is easy and fun though) that the Fleetline and Super series Olivers 77 and 88 were not offered from the factory with pressed steel on the rear. It is not enough for we Oliver people to state that they were indeed offered as such; we need to provide proof or documentation to support it. Does anyone have anything in print from literature or even an operators or service manual which would support the fact that 77s and 88s could be equipped with pressed steel rear wheels? Scanning it or emailing a scanned copy would put this thing to rest before the JD boys force us to park the big, bad Ollies on pressed steel that keep beating them.

I tried to post a scan on the photo page, but it is too small to read. If you want me to email a copy email me at [email protected], but take out the words nospam from the address. According to the manual, the Super 77s had pressed steel wheels available, but the Super 88s all show cast. Someone might have some other data for you.

There is a book called "Oliver, a photographic history"....several black and white photos of Olivers at the factory with pressed steel wheels.

Are you talking about G's or just John Deere in general? The A's and B's could have either type cast or steel according to thier hubs but the G's had cast centers only and can't get factory hubs allowing them to use pressed steel(have to fabricate them).I have had some dirty looks after a good pass on the S88 myself with the pressed steel wheels.Big classes you want the extra weight so I assume your talking 5500lb and below? One would think if Oliver put on nine bolt hubs that you could bolt on any nine bolt wheel you like(within the rule limit),I'm sure if the G Deere had had factory nine bolt hubs available back in the day that you would see lots more of them on the farm stock classes 6000lbs and below now. There are JD's all over this area running adapter plates(that wasn't a factory option) allowing them to use steel wheels with no dispute so far so I am gonna run mine.I'm with you WFE,I would like to see it in print so if it ever does come about here I will be ready to back it up.

I'm with ya Jax. I never saw a JD come out with a Power Block or really small front wheels either but they seem to be around don't they? They were never offered from the factory with 15.5 tires either that i know of. I got a 88 here that is as stock as they come except for the added Power booster( No I use this one I don't pull it) and it has pressed steel. besides, If a company offered the wheels that would bolt up with would be no different than putting M&W pistons in one whether they were bought at a dealer or not.

As fro the JD's getting beat by the Olivers, I have pulled past several with my 88 but by that same thing I have had my butt handed back to me by some JD's that are as legal as any other tractors out there. If ya want to pull stock against stock there are alot of weight brackets and hitches that are gonna have to be removed ya know???

Hehe Hey jax, Talked to Bassman and his B-I-L tonight and had to add in that those folks are having ot change to that odd red to beat the dark green!!!! LOL!!!!
Gotta have some fun right???

There is one Massey 55 that I have had to contend with for several years and he has beaten all the JD's I have pulled so far until I aquired the Super 88.He may get me next time and if he does it has been fun competing.Them red uns have been a job to squeeze by in 5500 and down, there are some tough ones around here ya know. The Oliver seems to have exellent balance not having to add near as much weights to the nose as the G's I've had.
