The first plug has some type of vent pipe, coming from valve cover, blocking access to first plug,,how do you remove this pipe is it threaded, clamped, etc. Seems like minor jobs like this turn into nightmares for me,,dont wanna break anything,is it just me.

Actually, that's the #6 plug, and yes you have to remove the vent pipe. If you take out the single bolt holding the vent pipe bracket that also is one of three bolts on the oil filter base, the vent tube just slips out of the valve cover. It's easy.

Also,,the brakes,,seems I need a lot of foot pressure to activate,I turned in adjustment nuts, didnt seem to help much, will nuts stop turning when brakes are shot,,also Im getting a popping noise on take off after tractor sits for a couple days,,how do I determine if this is the brakes or clutch siezeing up.

Thanks Stan

I agree that you probably need new brake discs. When you have them apart, take the expanding center plates apart, clean the balls and grooves, and put on new springs.

I assumed that you have all the shims out between the outer cover and the housing. if not try removing them one at a time first, and see if you get proper operation back.

Sounds like your brake disc's could be wore out. Even though they wont adjust up or stop very well, they will hang up after sittin for a spell, thus maybe creating the popping sound. Its not a big job to pull covers off and check your disc for wear. On the breather tub, just take the bolt out that supports it to the block and pull it out of valve cover. It just slides up into the flange on the voalve cover. Good luck!!!
