The arm is an add on (option?) to attach a drag behind the plow. It comes off/on with one bolt and one pin. I guess you could swing it far enough on either side to level the previos plow furroughs. I doubt if it is homemade. It seems too well done.

Donovan; The swing bar setup was used on the one we had for a harrow setup. In fact I have laying in my scrap pile a complete midwest harrow unit off of a 4 bottom semi mount plow if you would be interested in it. Just haven't cut it up yet and really hate to so let me know. Also know where there is another semi mount plow very good unit also. I have a Oliver cylinder also if you would like.

Another question. There is a switch at the base of the cylinder and out of the switchbox there are three wires going to a female plug at the other end of the cylinder. What does that plug into and how is it used?

Farmer in the Dells; the nice harrow (Midwest) attachment I would take $15.00 for it. Hope this goes right direction this time. Donovan hope you don't get it again. RickL

Seems that the others have answered your questions pretty good, I was in Madison over-night at my brother's apartment for a halloween party. You have a 1755 right? If so the hydra-lectric feature isn't available on the 55 series, it's just a normal hydraulic cylinder then. Our 546 that I bought has a Midwest "Buster Bar" on it, a type of harrow to help break up the big clods. Made of a 4" pipe w/ 12" long teeth made of about 7/8" round. Seems to work good so far. I'll try to get a picture of it when I have it on my 1855. I want to maybe get a picture of all 3 tractors w/ a plow, the 165 and 285 massey along with our 1855. We also have a little genious that we put behind our 165 on occasion. I gotta re-scour the bottoms this year because it rained before I had a chance to paint them last year. Donovan from Wisconsin

The first photo appears to be a hitch for an after market crow-foot packer or a light harrow. Tools like that were used to save one trip over the field years back, (it was factory made). The wires on the cylinder connected to a extension wire cable that plugged into an outlet on the tractor. The Hydra-lectric, as it was called, let the operator move the stop collar on the cylinder from the tractor and also released the detent allowing the hydraulic valve control lever to return to neutral when the cylinder reached the end of the stroke. Early tractors used a 4 wire system, later ones were a 3 wire system. Hope this helps. Harry D.
