I'm looking at a tractor said to be a '70 Orchard', but its is missing the orchard points and its exhaust is exiting through the hood. Do these have a special serial # or any other way of distinguishing them from the standards? The # is consistent with a 1941 standard. What else can I check to determine if this is in fact an orchard, or simply a standard. Also does anyone have an idea of the value of this tractor? It is very straight in running condition, but needs paint. Thanks, Bill

Bill,

I don"t consider my self an expert, but I have a 1939 70 Orchard, and every other 70 orchard I have ever seen had a side exhaust. It"s possible that someone put a different manifold end on the one your looking at, check and see if the hood has been patched along the manifold side where you would expect to exhaust to come out. There are a couple of other small differences, including a the draw bar. As far as anyone knows, the orchard serial numbers were not different from the rest of the 70 standard production (this includes industrial models as well).

As for a value..that"s up in the air. A decent running 70 standard in any configuration should be worth @ $1,500. Others opinions may vary...

Enjoy, Joe
