I just bought a 770 and the data plate is missing so I don't know the serial number. I was wondering if anyone knows of other numbers on the 770 that can be used to get it into a year group? Mine is one of the older models, but by looking at the fenders I don't think it is a 58. I'm guessing right now that it is somewhere between a 59 and whenever Oliver went to the checkerboard grill.

Thanks, Dave

There are three numbers on the lower left hand side of the block. they are #185220-E which I think is the casting number, # 1MB100R Which I think is the designation for the model, and #9188 which could be a julian date of Year 1959 day 188, but I'm not sure about that. The only dates I've ever seen were MM-dd-yy.

The only other thing I could find was a symbol that looked like a clock face with a single hand pointing at 5 o'clock.

Thanks for any help,
Dave

You do have an earlier 770. If you take the valve cover off and you may need to take the thermostat housing off, anyhow in that area of the head you will find a number stamped which will be a month and year when Waukesha machined it. Also on the back flange opposite side as the starter there will be a number stamped which is the engine serial number. Check and see what it is.

Thanks for the Info, I'll check the serial number on Sunday, but maybe a few days before I can pull the valve cover. Is there a place I can cross the serial number of the engine to a manufacture date, or is it coded into the number?

Thanks Again, Dave
