Your tractor has an Oliver/Waukesha engine 283 CID engine, Indirect Injection (early model). The Perkins D-354 was used in the 1850, not the 1650.

Hey Guy, how can one tell the difference between a DI and Indirect injection??

The easiest way is by the intake manifold - - the intake on DI engines has six ports and the older ones have three.

The other major difference is the type of injection nozzles..the DI engine has the Roosa-Master "pencil" type nozzles mounted at an angle at the top of the head. The older ones use the larger horizontally-mounted nozzles mounted into the left side of the head with a prechamber mounted on the right side directly across from each nozzle.

Thanks Guy, mine is an IDI then, I wonder why it does not need (manditory on most) pre-heat like most IDIs that I see??

Good compression, fast cranking speed, correct weight of oil, and temperatures above 50 degrees all help.

Yours must be in good shape.
