I have an old 2 row Oliver 74H mounted corn picker, I want to restore, and I have a 49 oliver 88 gas. Would the 88 be big enough to handle this? Always thought would be a nice show piece at a power show. Thanks! Chad

Chad, did you get your 74-H restored?
I have one that has been in a shed for years that we used to mount on an Oliver 1650.
I am trying to sell this one as we have sold the farm and need to get out of the shed.

Was the 88 live power hyd? Never ran one much to know for sure. I was thinking about how it would steer with out power steering,, ehh, not to worried bout that, LOL. What wheel spacing does the rear wheels have to be set to clear the picker? ChadS

We have one mounted on a 770 gasser and it has been used that way since 1979, until then it was took off every year. I would think the 88 would strut with it.

I have one mounted on an 880 gas. My parts book shows that they made mounting brackets for everything from an 88 to a 1600 as well as for other makes of tractors, so evidently the Oliver engineers thought an 88 could handle it. Only problem I see is that the 74 is heavier and less well balanced than the # 4 that it replaced. Jim.

We sold one we mounted on an 88 diesel. It had Super sleeves & pistons in it and handled the picker well. We also had one on a M or Super M don't remember for sure which Farmall. I think you need to change something on the mounting brackets, This is 40 years later. they were a very good picker!

Dad had it mounted on A JD 730 years back,, all the brackets are still there, drives and gearboxes good. Been about 15 years since it has been used,, but it looks pretty good still. Chad
