I am primarily a Case person but I like buzzing around once in a while. I think I understand the relationship between Oliver and Cockshutt but are the forums identical? If so why do they both exist? Thanks, Glenn F.

Not really sure of your question. They don"t both exist, at least not here on YT discussion forum. We could comment on your knowledge if you gave us a clue as to what it was, as you may be right or you may be wrong in what you understand is the situation.
Basically Cockshutt tractors were, over the years, either Oliver built Oliver models in Cockshutt colours (usually) or Cockshutt models built by Cockshutt. As so many of the questions/problems/comments would be pertinant to both Oliver or Cockshutt equivalent models it has been decided to have one forum where the common links and the separate threads are in one forum. The advantages are, as I see it,:
a) stops the need to chase around if you have a Cockshutt and don"t know it was an Oliver, and
b) what would be left of Oliver or Cockshutt would be a very minor forums? and
c) no need to post questions on multiple forums or need to search two forums for Oliver/Cockshutt answers.
Hope this helps.

Maybe I'm really missing something but, they do both exist here on the YT site. At the top of this page there is a Cockshutt heading and an Oliver heading. When I go to the Oliver forum the top line says Oliver, Celtrac, CO-OP, & Cockshutt. At the top of the Cockshutt forum it simply says, Cockshutt. However the discussion threads are identical each time I check. This is what I mean when I ask, "Why are do the two forums exist?" Am I missing something? Cleaarly, I am not trying to be difficult. Thanks, Glenn F.

Thanks for your response. On the top of this page there is a Oliver heading and a Cockshutt heading. Both appear the same to me. Why have both? Thanks, Glenn

Glenn,from 1947 until 1962 Cockshutt made their
own tractors including the models 20,30,40,& 50
until 1958 when they made the models 540,550,560
& the 570 and 570 super. At this time the company
was bought by Oliver and they sold what was left of the tactors and then started marketing their
tractors under the Cockshutt name and the oliver name and some molines also.

Again, only nearly right.
Oliver supplied a lot of tractors to Cockshutt long before White bought them out. Look up ranges pre-WWII.

Actually KRM, Oliver did NOT buy Cockshutt but White did. Oliver was already owned by White Motors at this time. White bought Oliver in 1959, Cockshutt in 1960 and Minneapolis Moline in 1963. Roger

That's funny. I always read that White Motors bought Oliver in 1960, Cockshutt in 1963, and Moline in 1969. That would explain the timing of tractors with Moline engines and 55 series Oliver rear-ends.

Very interesting discussion but, I'm STILL wondering why two identical forums exist here. I AM correct in concluding the Oliver and Cockshutt forums are identical...Right? Thanks, Glenn F.

There really are not two forums. If you look at the messages displayed when you click on both links (makes at the top of the page) they are identical, only the heading changes. This is only true if you click on the tractor brand near the top of the page. It looks different (better in my opinion) if you enter the discussion group area by clicking on "Discussion Forums" in the left column and then on the "Oliver, Cletrac, Co-op & Cockshutt Tractors Discussion Board".

Good Luck,
A.P.

I see that. The "clickable" tractor brands on the top of the page would make it appear otherwise. Each of the other "clickable" tractor brands are their own forum. Thanks for the clarification/discussion. I love old iron of all colors. Glenn F.

I have been going to this forum for years and never noticed you could click on Cockshutt or Oliver separately although the postings are the same. However, there is a header that says "about oliver" and "about cockshutt" that is different. I don't like the layout of those pages though, I prefer entering from discussion forums.
