Okay... question. I obtained Oliver 77 rods for a project I am working on and to my surprise there were shims between the halfs but had inserted rod bearings in them??? What am I looking at here and can I order regular 77 rod bearings for these? Thanks in advance,

Torquenut

You have a very early like 1949 or early 1950 77, They were made that way. The easy way out is when you recondition the rods. take the shims out, and explain to your machinest that it had the shim pac and he will not need to cut the cap or the rod to recon the big end. Then have him hone it to the dimensions in his bearing book. Questions?
