I found a 546 4-16 plow yesterday in the classifieds, went and got it right away. Got it for $250, needs new points, shins, and landslides, but it came with a Midwest Buster Bar. Moldboards still have over 50% life left, steering is still very solid, had a ram on it, and also has spring loaded coulters(our 565 has regular rolling coulters) Drove about 110 miles each way, burnt up a little over a tank of gas, and had to rent a trailer, but the veiw was worth it. Perfect time of year for a long road trip. Got to share it all with my girlfriend.

That long road trip with your gal was worth the expense! Sounds like you got the plow for free! What's a buster bar? Regards! Ed

The decal says Midwest Mfg. Buster Bar. It's a type of harrow that mounts onto the frame and it breaks up the clumps and chunks. It helps reduce the amount of times you have to work over the land. About another $300 in rock shares, shins and land slides, but then it's basically a new plow. Gotta finish that up this weekend sometime inbetween taking the flat tire off the blower, putting on the corn head, and mounting and checking out a free chopper box to our running gear. Too busy to chop corn yet but the frost may tell us differently.

Don- if your looking for a heavy duty high clearance plow, we got one for sale at work- a White 588. We got an Oliver, exactly the same, and it does a heck of a job.

Nope, we were just looking for a 4 bottom to put behind our 1855. Gotta get new hoses for the cylinder that came on it(dang JD o-ring crap). Tried it a little last night w/ out any adjustments and one broken point and with no surprise it wouldn't bite in very much. Getting new parts tomorrow. The buster bar on the side though seems to work really nice. We really don't need a high clearance model because we don't plow under much trash. Never had a problem with our 565 when we did either.

thats alright Don, I just thought I would throw that out there. I guess its a shame that this 588 is sitting. Also, I think you'd need more power then your 1855, cause we used to use a 1950T on ours. Good luck on your new plow:)

I put our 1855 on the 3 bottom last week and pulled it in 4th, but that's just too fast to plow. The shares were getting really hot. I'm pretty sure that the 1855 runs over 100 HP, I pulled a 7 shank chisel plow this summer in 3rd direct/over. I find it hard to believe my grandpa used the 1600 to pull the 3 bottom in the past, he bought them as a pair. Guess he had it in 2nd or even 1st in the really hard clay.
