Have a Marvel carb on an Oliver 77 that runs gas over if the fuel shut off is left on. Does the float need bent to move the needle in more? Everything else looks good and there isn't much in there. Thanks for the help.

Make sure there is no dirt in the needle and seat. Off hand, I forget the float setting on your carb. What # carb do you have??? If you post and no answer, I will look up and post later. PS, a carb kit from napa for a marvel schebler usually only runs about $20.

Supposedly they were new just a few months ago and the tractor only ran for about a month after them being replaced, they look like brand new too. Is it possible that I just need to bend the tab on the float to get it to seat all the way?

Make sure the brass seat is $&% tight into the carburetor body. Often, people don't tighten these enough, and gas bypasses the needle and seat by leaking at the seat gasket area.

Use common sense, and check for a float that is "heavy" due to gasoline getting inside it from a leak. Look for any shiny spots on the float where it may be contacting the carburetor body and jamming.

Look for burrs or roughness on the needle that may by causing it to jam rather than sliding up into the seat. Raise and lower the float, while watching the angle between the tab on the float and the needle. The float has only so much lift, while floating in gasoline, and and roughness or binding or missalignment will prevent the float from doing it's job, holding up the needle to close off the seat against the flow of gas.
