I think I have an OLIVER 90 that has a 3 cyl GM put in by the factory. Just wondering how I might find out exactly what it is. I also would like to know where to find the serial number(s)that I need to identify this machine. I greatly appreciate any help I can get. Thank you.

I doubt you do. Factory 90s had the 4 pot 443 cu. in. engine and no other engine option seems to be mentioned. Could it be a super 99?
There is no mention of the GM engine until about 1955, but I supose they could have fitted a few in later 99s. 90 production ceased in 1952 but the GM two strokes had been round for years so I would think it a possibility that someone has retro fitted it.

Believe it or not, there was a company that offered a conversion kit to put a 3-cyl. GM in a 90/99. The company was out of Washington or Oregon, can't remember. There is sales literature in the hands of a few collectors showing this kit. However, it was not offered by the Oliver Corporation nor was it done at the Oliver plant. This same company also offered a conversion to put the GM in an LA Case and a MM model. I know the whereabouts of 3 other Olivers like this, 2 on the east coast and one in IL.

I've personally seen about 15 of them. They are all over the place in Montana sitting in fields and behind barns rusting away. It was common for farmers to convert them over the winter. They got the 3-71 engines from HD7 crawlers. Apparently the HD7 would completely wear out the tracks but the 3-71 would be perfectly good so they would buy them at action for the engine. There was a guy in Conrad, Montana that claims to have done at least 30 of them. He still had the ruminates of 3 or 4 of them a few years ago. They say they made pretty good tractors. Worked pretty good for PTO units for pumps.

I ran into one of the LA Case conversions and it was a 4-71 not the 3 cylinder. It was good looking conversion. It was in Cleveland TN.
