Looking at buying an Oliver 88 diesel, the guy says that the pump isn't the one it came out with its a bigger pump if this is true what might have the pump came off of. Could it be from an 880 or a 1600 etc. Also how do you tell if its a standard or row crop with a wide front end. If I get lucky I'll get to look at it tomorrow and maybe get some numbers off of it. If so I'll post more info then. John help please again

Uh, another real easy way to tell if its a standard or row crop would be to look at the rear axle housing, Octagonal with the words ROW CROP written on the back mean its a ROW CROP! Round rear axles are standards ( but they dont say that ).

I am going to talk out of both sides of my mouth here. First of all see if it is a Roosa Master or a PSB Bosch and get the I. D. numbers off of the pump. Next thing, either pump could have a different hydraulic head installed by someone who changed them but did not change the tag. Also get the serial number off the tractor.

The pump could be off a farmall or minnie moe. They also used the same pump, only calibrated higher. 880 and 1600 used the roosa systems, so it didnt likely come off one of them. You can tell if its a standard or row crop easiest by rear tire size. Row crops had adjustable wide fronts or wide non-adjustables but ALL row crops had either 34 or 38 inch rears. ALL standards will either be equipped with 26inch or 30 inch rear tires.Hope this helps and good luck

Actually, the 880 used the American Bosch PSB pump, too. The Roosamaster came in with the thousand series. The 88 and 880 used the same pump, but the one for the 880 was adjusted differently.

All the 3 digit tractors had Bosch pumps when production started and Roosa when production ended. The late summer of 1960 for the 770 early 1961 for the 880 and the 4 cylinder models inbetween.

What pump did the 1650's have? I had always thought they had american bosch until the late 1650's with pencil injectors came out with the roosa pump. Thanks for clearin it up.

All the four digit tractors had Roosa Master pumps except the 20 & 2150 Which had the American Bosch PSJ and or a Model 100 American Bosch replacement.

Oh yeah, i wasnt very thorough in my explanation of the pump.Only the hydraulic head off another pump(probably farmall or MM) would be installed on your 88 injector pump. Just follow John's instuctions on getting the pump #s and than we can tell were it came from.

If the tractor is a standard then the front axle will be 1 piece from one wheel to the other. If it's a row crop the front will have an axle that is actually 3 pieces with the center having a larger diameter and the 2 outer ends nearest the wheels having a smaller diameter and most times holes in them to adjust the rolling width of the tractor to accomodate the differing crop row spacing thus giving it the name row crop.

Not all of the wide front ends on the 88 rowcrop were adjustable (multi-piece). A fixed width (one piece) front end was also offered.
