Hello, I just bought a Super 55 for a local family who had the Oliver dealership in our area. The tractor is in overall good shape, all the tin is there and in decent shape and the tractor runs great, shows 1050 hours, and the meter works. Serial # is 19071-518, any idea what year this tractor is, what it is rated at for HP and what a real world value is on it?? Any and all help is greatly appraciated. Doug

Looks like a 1955. Horsepower is about 34. Nice examples normally go for $3000.00 and up these days. This all depends on where you live.

John, Many thanks for the info. Looks like it is going to need brakes, one side grabs. Any sources for stuff like this that you have had good luck with? Doug

Another thing about the 55 brakes is if the pedal return spring is missing or hooked up improperly the brake with this problem will lock up when trying to travel in reverse. These pedals also have a swinging parking brake which could hang up.

Grabby left brake symptoms in reply to jakej, 09-22-2004 18:32:32
Brakes seem to work fine in reverse, except for the grabbing. Traveling forward the left brake grabs to the extent that it is nearly impossible to apply it without skidding the tire, about half the time it locks up the tire and slight reverse motion is needed to unlock it (the backlash of the skid has always done it so far). The hour meter only shows 1037 hours and I have spoken with the original (one and only) owner and he verifies the hours, nearly all haying, so it does sound more like a mechanical failure than worn out linings. The pedals return fine and evenly. Is this a fluid filled system and is there anything in there that is going to fly out (springs?) when I remove the cover? Doug

There are no springs, The action is strictly a camming action to brake. The covers on both sides can be removed to expose the innards. The only tricky part is replacing the 3 bolts that hold the disc assy. Checking under the covers is probably the next step, the system is simple once exposed. If you don't have a manual I can send a scan.

Great tractors have 2 myself. It has disc brakes which are easily replaced or adjusted. Korves Olivers should have them.
