I was curious about the opinions here on my situation , I have acquired a 550 with a seized and partly disassembled engine. The fellow who owns it said it was always a great tractor but that melting snow and rain had found it's way down a rotted out exhaust system and into the engine. The tractor has a really nice lookinf FEL and the tin is very good with only some light surface rust. I guess my question would be , is it worth hauling it all the way home and fixing it up ? as I already have a very nice '48 8N

thank you for your time

Do you wish to sell the tractor? If so, is it gas or diesel? and what extras does it have?
Is it just the engine that is bad?
Thanks,

Not sure were you are or how far the tractor is but if the price is reasonable you will like the end results. As others said motor is very expencive to rebuild expect $2500, oversize mains are not available so almost garenteed to weld and turn crank. some other parts are hard to find but let me know what you need and I can probably help. We have several of these as well as the 35's that we are restoring. email me if you like

Irv we have a 35 and 35L both as well as a 50deluxe and 20delux.

have you heard the rumor that the Hercules motor company is trying to go back in business to make parts --- I have heard this rumor now for 3 yrs or more --this would make those engine parts a bit cheaper if it were true I would Hope.

That Cockshutt will make that ford seem like a toy. I would get it and fix it up.
