Looks like Francis is headed just to your west. Means bunches of rain--you ready?

Yeah, we have been chopping corn hard and heavy since last thursday, that is why you havent heard from me in a while. Took a few days off from work here to get the corn in. We got all the low fields chopped and actually got them worked up and barly planted over the weekend. Chopped corn from 6am till lunch on Monday until the rain got to be too much and the chopper got hung up on a hill. Now the rain is setting in so we may or may not get any more corn chopped for the season, it is really drying down fast around here.

From what it looks like we should only get about 3 or 4 inches in the next few days, so hopefully it will not come too fast or too hard. We could use some rain, just not all at once :-)

Looked at my corn over the weekend--thought I might start the combine. But at 18.5% it's still a little wet. We'll see next weekend.

Ours will not be ready to shell for a few weeks yet, most is just starting to drop ears, so it is still pretty wet. I am just hoping that we dont get too much wind and put this big corn down. The corn around here is tall, most over the forage wagon roofs, and the ears are big, now that it is dying down a good wind could put it on the ground. Hopefully we will not get much wind out of this storm.

I am actually glad it is raining, I need some sleep.....

I am in upstate SC and were are getting a visit from Frances right now . We expect to get anywhere from 4 to 8 inches in the next two days . We needed the rain too so hopefully she will , like a good mother in law , stay a day and leave .

Hmmmm no comment on the mother in law, but I do hope we can get a few inchs of rain at a "reasonable" rate. Corse we got our eye on Ivan too, this has been quite a year for hurricanes.....

Got some good pictures of chopping season this year, just need to post some in my spare time :-)... Got almost 30 ton to the acre of silage on my quick math, corn was 14+ foot tall most places.

We ain't even thinking about chopping corn in ths area unless you need the feed that bad. We didn't get anything in until June 23, when a tornado hit the North end of town. I planted 1/2 the feild in the rain. The cobs are starting to form, tossled out for about 3 weeks or so now. I'm surprised it's 6-8 ft. tall in most spots. Just last year we had nice corn, about 12-14 ft tall. Had to go in 1st, mostly in under and we had moe than enough. Put about another small silo full(34 x 12) on a pile outside, fed that first. Ran out just 2 weeks ago from last years harvest. Very Odd weather this year in Wisconsin.

Most of our corn went in the ground the last week of April and it is already getting too dry to chop. We have had a super growing season and the corn is really tall and looks good. Going to make an Ag-bag Monday if the weather clears and I imagine as soon as we are done chopping the later corn the early will be ready to shell... If I can get time to get the combine fixed and running again. If we can get it all harvested through the hurricanes we should have a really nice crop this year.

Only expecting 4-5 inches of rain today and tomorrow from Frances, and we are dry now so we should be OK.
