Hello;

Does anyone know what year they made the Cockshutt 1850 - 98 hp diesel engine tractor?

Was it a good one? Is is hard to repair and get parts for? Would it likely do round bale haying?
What to look for?

Thanks WM

I have three and they are a great tractor that will run for years with very little maintenance. All parts are available from AGCO dealers and many different jobbers. Watch for sputtering and foul smelling exhaust this could indicate poor timing, bad injection or cracks in the engine. Open up the radiator cap in make sure you have no exhaust leaking into the cooling side. Most have minor leaks but you should not see any steady running of fluid from underside. Easy to fix and maybe one of the most reliable tractors ever built. If you can take fluid samples and get them analysed by a lab.

The model 1850 was built from 1964 though 1969.

The 1850 was made from 62/63ish up to 68 if I remember right. It came with a 354 perkins diesel engine. Parts are still availble for these tractors, rememeber that the 1850 Cockshutt is more or less a 1850 Oliver. As far as engine parts, you can go to any Massey Ferguson dealership for them. Massey has used perkins for years and used the 354 in everything from tractors to combines, turbocharged, non-turboed, turboed with chargecooling almost every combination you can think of. The Massey tractor model that would be closest to the engine in the 1850 would be MF1100.
