Oliver 70 starter problems

I had my 70 overhauled with new rings and bearings. I then had the starter and generator rebuilt by a professional shop. The starter will not turn the engine over very well with a 6 volt battery. It can't make a complete turn without stalling. A 12 volt whips it over like nothing. I know the starter and generator were 6 volt and they rebuilt them as 6 volt. Anyone have any suggestions or comments?

Did you replace the battery cables? If you did, did you put the heavier cables in for 6 volt

I didn't change either cable. The starter cable is original and heavy. The ground cable is kind of small. It is also bolted to the dash panel by the gauges. Shouldn't it be bolted the cast iron?

I am not sure where the ground cable should go on a 70, I have a friend with one and will check on his. Another thought crossed my mind. You mentioned that you had the generator rebuilt. Do you know if your 6 volt battery is charging? Did you polarize the generator? If you don't know how to do this post a response and I will type it out for you Hope this helps.
