Anyone have an advise on how to adjust the width on the front end. I took apart the small steering tie rod, took the pin out of the large tube and loosened the u joint. A half can of WD40, alot of pounding and a busted 12 ton hydraulic jack later the adjustable part has not budged at all. This thing is set on the 4th hole and I would really like to get it back to the second hole. Any suggestions are appreciated.

THis is simple... ( ya right)

the way to do it is work it forward and backwards in the tube first.

we heated, PB blasted it, beat with a sledge, and then... hooked the wheel to a John Deere A and pulled forward--took a cable come-a-long and rachetted it back then pulled it forward againg.

oh and an 1755 will not go into 30in--- you have to cut off 2 inches of the tube and insert it all the way to get down to 62" between the wheels.

I widened the front I put on my 1850 when I replaced the short wheel based one with a row crop. It was set for 30" and I wanted 36". While I had in the floor I used BP blaster for a week and started hitting it with a sledge hammer when ever I went by. Before long it started moving and I just kept using the BP and hitting. I took it completely apart and freed it up so if I ever want to move it I can. I had more trouble with the tierods than the Axle.

We tried for two whole years to move the front end of one of our 1855"s from 36 to 30 inch rows. Tried heat, filling the tube with penetrating oil and even brake fluid. Finally took it to the local machine shop and they said "no problem". One week later, found out they had to cut the entire outer tube on each side along the front to break the inner tube free. They then welded it shut and applied ample anti-sieze. We provided the paint and you have to really look hard to see the weld. Only way they could get it free. About $400 of work.

Chad,
You might need to heat the tube to get it to move. I've had good luck by pushing the tire up against a grain bin foundation. Take out the 3/4" pin that goes through the tube and put in a 1/2" long bolt. If it moves, then jack the front end up, take the tire off, and hook a come-a-long to the drawbar of a tractor parked in front of your 1655, and the hook around the front wheel hub and pull the knee forward. After it moves forward, hook your come-a-long to the back axle of your 1655 and pull it back wards. Keep working it this way while spraying lots of penetrating oil and it will loosen up.
