I removed the steering assembly on the Oliver 550.

I am having trouble getting the sector shaft pitman arms off. I tried driving them off with a brass drift, but not having much luck. Afraid I'll break something inside if I hit too hard.

Anybody have any suggestions?
If I back off the end play on the sector shafts can I get a gear puller to work?? The end of the shafts have a concave area like for a puller.

Soak the splines with PB blaster, remove the covers on the opposite side, place in a press and use light force tapping the pitman arm at the same time. Make sure to support the casting evenly on the bottom.

Thanks.
I was trying to remove the arms befored I removed the assembly from the tractor as per instructions.
The steering assembly would have been easier to remove without the pitman arms.

I do have the assembly out now, and I have access to a press. I had other equipment to work on today, but I bet with the plates out on the opposite side and the steering worm gear out, I could drive or push the sectors out of the arms.

What is the little 1/4" screw about 1/3rd of the way down the steering column for?

No body knows, the I&T says "fillister screw" which holds nothing. The shop manual does not even show it. I have a scan of all gears in the correct position from the shop manual if you want it. Also when removing the bottom race the cup must be driven out from the top and reformed by striking the concave side while resting in a pipe nipple. The race is driven out from the bottom.
