Does any one know if it is possible to put the wider rod bearing inserts in the rods of a 3150. Crank will be fresh ground, looks like it would be possible to me. What is the Cat arrangement # for the 3150, would also like arrangement for 3160, just in case I swap cranks.

The Caterpillar arangement Number for the 3150 in a 2255 was 4N4857. When Cat discontinued the 3100 series and went with the 3208. It"s arrangement Number was listed as 4N9093 or 6N2897. Oliver never installed the 636 cu. in. CAT 3160 into a 2255.If you do go to the 3160 Crankshaft you will also need to find pistons for a 3160/3208.The wrist pin locaion is about a .250 in. higher for the added stroke of the crank. The connecting rods are the same.

I was under the impression that Oliver indeed did install the 636CID version in the later tractors. My operators manual shows displacement at 636, as well has a picture of the engine with the 3208 decal on the valve cover. Come back to the rod bearing width does anyone know with certainty whether or not a guy can run the wider inserts in the 9L9326 or 8N8002 connecting rods. I still say it looks possible, unless the oil would not feed from center of crankshaft hollow hole. Looks very possible. I wish I had all the the Cat service bulletins like I do have for the the 3400 series engines.

Later 2255 tractors did have a 3208 engine.

NOTHING TO DO WITH A 2255, BUT WHAT IS THE WHOLE LINE-UP OF V-8 CATS. I HAVE 1970 F8000 FORD DUMP TRUCK AND IT HAS AN 1170 V-8 CAT,OR AT LEAST THAT IS WHAT IT HAS ON THE VALVE COVER, I WAS JUST WANDERING WHAT OR WHERE THIS MOTOR COMES INTO PLAY. THE GUY I BOUGHT IT FROM SAID IT WAS PRE 3208, LIKE I DIDN'T KNOW THAT, BUT BEING A OLIVER GUY I ALL WAYS LIKED THE CAT OLIVERS

There were only three sizes of engines based on the 4.5 in. bore V-block CAT produced.The smallest were 522 cid (3140,1140,1145) with a 4.1 in.stroke.The mid size was 573 cid (3150 or 1150)with a 4.5 in.stroke.The largest was 636 cid (3160,1160,3208) with a 5.0 in.stroke.

a 1100 Series is a Basic engine for a truck application. The 3100 series are the off-highway vrsions. They were made in three different displacements. All have the same bore but three different length strokes were used. They were all replaced by the 3208 which of course is very similar. Hope that helps.

There was a kit for the bearings,I had it put in my 2255, don't know if they were wide or not. The engines had a problem with bearing inserts working in the journal, caught the bearings before anything bad happened. Delbert
