I just attended the American threshermans association show in Pinckneyville, Il, on display was an off colored 880 oliver. There was a little description on the tractor that said something to the effect of oliver changing their paint in January of 1959. It said the tractor was one of 18 left known to exist out of I believe it said 34 or 39 that were originally painted this way. I too have a 1959 oliver that I believe was an off colored green at some point, it is much lighter green than the green that it has been painted with, in its life and has been repainted over the original. What color of primer was used? I am just curious as what serial numbers would be included in this list. My serial number is 73-806-873 thanks Jake

Jake, The 880 was the feature tractor at the HPOCA summer show last year. There is an article about the "Mist Green" 880s in the show book that was put out by the association. The GOOD news is... your ser. number is in the range of ones that are known to exist! The collector in the article name is Blane Bolte. I'm sure he would like to hear from you about your tractor. I have his number if needed. WB.

Jake,
I own the mist green 880 featured in the current issue of Oliver Heritage magazine. If you go to www.Oliverinformation.com you can get a subscription form and subscribe. Sherry is really good about getting past issues out if you need them. Or you can send me your address and I'll forward it to Sherry.

The mist-green 880's were first manufactured on Jan. 23, 1959. There were 253 made with this color. Of those, there only about 25 known left. Mine is the 3rd oldest. Yours should be one of the last made. I believe the last one known of at this time is #73851.

Email me sometime if you'd like to talk about the mist-greens. They're my favorite Oliver since they're so unique. Hope this helps you out some.

There is a picture of mine under the photo gallery. Type in oliver 880 and look for a 1959 880 posted by Kent Aschenbrenner from Iowa.

I also have an original mist green 880 from 1959. Blane has never re-painted his 880, it is an original tractor with original paint. I had to have mine repainted to mist green because it had been painted meadow green at some point in time. If you would like I can get the paint codes for you.

Oliver 880man, I would appreciate it if you could get me the paint code. Eventually I am going to repaint this tractor. It needs a lot of oil leaks fixed first. After all it is an oilallover, haha. If someone would tell me how I would post a picture here. Thanks Jake

According to the limited research I have just done the Dupont number you are looking for is GS354.

However I don't think that is the color. GS354 looks to be too dark. It might be correct because the lit from Dupont lists the color as "Special Edition 2/1959".

Good luck.

If you could I would appreciate if you could give me some info on how to subscribe to the oliver heritage magazine. Is there any way to get a copy of the article? Are old issues available? Thanks Jake

Here is Sherry's page, just poke the link below, once on her site click the link to the magazine and it has a printable form. I am sure she has back issues. You can email her from that address also. Isn't it great that you happened to find out about your tractor's past.

If you want to post a picture, I would make sure it is a jpeg. Click on the Galleries section in the left hand coloumn of this site and choose Tractor photos. It will giveyou instructions. Then post back here to let us know. You can even copy and past the link to your picture and include it on your post. Put the link address in the box directly below your message and title it. Then the link will show up on your message.
