There are a couple of things it could be. The shifting lever could have jumped the rails. That's the easiest to check. Look for the two springs and make sure they are okay, and line up the rails.

Another possiblility, If the forks have jumped the coupler you will have to remove the top. It's really heavy so you will need to rig up a hoist.

If you do the axle seals, get the full manual from the Floyd County Historical society. It is expensive, but well worth it. Inspect your bearings. They are available from your local supplier, you don't need to go to AGCO and pay big $$$$.

Good luck. If you need help post back.

Yep, pull the shifter and line up the rails. Common problem.

So I don"t need to pull the hydraulics off, just pull the shifter? That would be nice. Thanks fellas!

Nice job, when that happened to me I thought my whole tranny was gone. With the help of the people here I found it was the easy rail fix. The 550s are like little Sherman tanks, not much is going to stop 'em! Knock on wood....
