Cockshutt 50 wheels won't come off?

I can't seem to get the wheels off my 50. I need to put it on a trailer before moving day comes, so I need to reverse the rims, so the dish is in. I jacked it up, pulled the 9 lug nuts off the sold cast wheels, but they won't budge. I bet they've been on for at least 20 years, or at least since before the last paint job. Any hints? Is there a secret?

John, I usually soak it good with PB or some other penetraiting oil, jack it up enough to take the weight off and then hit inside of tire with a big sledge hammer. taking care not to hit rim only rubber it will come loose after a while. may need to rotate tire several times. Irv

Hey John, I saw plans for a puller that uses a plate, out of like 3/4 in. steel, just square, nothin fancy but large enough to cover the bolt pattern. drill or if your good w/torch, out the holes of the bolt pattern. Not all of them are needed but, oh, say, 5 . Now there must be a hole in it large enough to open up around the axle. Use grade 8 bolts and nuts to bolt through the bolt pattern. Now for the outer plate. Simple. Same size as the inner one. Solid but Both plates need holes on the outsides of them for short pieces of chain. 4 of them, long enough for a bottle jack to fit inside. A 4 ton minimum. Do you see where I'm going with this? Use a little heat, and I mean carefully not to smoke your bearings. Now, jack out the "Jack" with the jackshaft pressing aganist the axle. I saw this in, I think green magazine. Don't tell anyone that there is a John Deere in my shed next to the olivers. Good luck, Ox

I had the same problem with my 40. I used a bottle hydralic jack between the frame and disc real close to the hub. Put wood block on both ends and pumped. They pushed right off. Jerry

Wheel poppin'; Used the same technique as two of these guys, but used a Porta-Powr instead of bottle jack arrangement. Can put a lot of strain on the chains, then pop the back of the hub casting with a sledge hammer alternating every other hub strike 180. This technique was first tried by me on a 1948 JD B which may have gone untouched for most of 54 years. I would give a lot of credit to liberal dousing of PB Blaster of course. Good luck on your stubborn beast.

Thanks to you all for your wisdom. I'll keep at it. I don't need to get it done overnight so I'll be trying these tricks over the next week or so.
