My 1855 diesel is idling at approximately 1000 rpms. How do I lower the rpms? and at what rpms should it be idling?

Thanks Larry

You will see an arm on the injection pump that is connected to the governor control rod that you actuate from the operators station. There is an adjustment consisting of a screw and jamnut there, but don't adjust the wrong one, as the high idle adjustment is there and is done the same way. There are also adjustments you can make to the linkage itself, both at the injection pump end (a turnbuckle) and at the station end, a limit screw with jamnut. I believe recommended idle speed is approximately 750 rpm, but you may choose to leave it at 1000 rpm because it likely runs smoother there than at 750 or lower. That may explain why it is set there currently.
