Hi, Does anyone on here use oliver implements such as rakes or , if Oliver even sold them , balers ? Were their implements not very good or was the parts availability just not that good ? I've been looking for oliver rakes and balers on the web but haven't found very much , only two sickles . Was just curious as to what everyone thought about any of them . My 415 sickle is as heavy as a tank and purely simple compared to some of the others I've looked at . It works good . But what about the rakes or balers ?

To J. Schwiebert , I decided to not worry so much about my 1755 oil pressure . It seems to have stabilized at the lowest of 18 psi at a low idle and stay's at 25-30 at 1800 rpm . I don't work it very hard so I'm going to wait and see what happens . If it blows it blows . Thanks for your help though and I'm sure that I'll need your experience in the future ;-] . I found a guy that has experience working on Olivers close by so I may have it rebuilt this winter if he has time . Randy-IA

We have a 62T baler, a 207 hay rake, a 588 moldboard plow. We used to have a 415 sickle mower, but we traded that off. Grandpa was pretty exclusive to Oliver machinery, but only a few remain. We just got the rake, traded off a new holland 256 for it.

Hi , You say you have a 207 ? How do you like it ? Does it do a good job of cleaning the field ? Is it a easy keeper ? What kind of teeth do you use rubber mount or steel ? Around "here" some suggest using fluid in the tires to prevent slipping , I don't like that idea , have you tryed it ? Once again I have a million questions because everyone around here is JD , IH or AC . I've got nothing against those but they're not what I have or want right now . I like doing things against the grain sometimes . One of my neighbors has three pristine Olivers , a 1755D , a 1650G with Koyker loader and I didn't get to look at the last one so I don't know what it is but I could see it was in great shape . He said they were always shedded and waxed three times a year . Bought them all new . But he uses JD implements . Anyway , Thanks - Randy-IA

I think the 207 does a better job then the New Holland in cleaning the field, but you have to drive a little slower because the way it is geared. I replaced one of the shafts/bearing sets on the reel as soon as we got it because it was wore so badly. The keyway was also shot. Oh well, got new parts machined, and it works great. We got rubber New Holland teeth on ours, work great, just a little spendy. What town do you call home in NE Iowa? I work in Spring Valley MN, and attended college in Austin, so I have a fair handle on NE Iowa towns. Too bad you cant find more Olivers around there, I too noticed that when I went to Charles City once, not many Oliver/White tractors to be found. Hope my info helps. Regards, j meyer

Hi J , Thanks for the information ! I bought that 207 I went and looked at . It was modified by the original owners with a chaindrive from the nearside wheel to the clutch drive . The person I bought it from said he bought it from the original owners as they retired from farming .He said he has the orininal owners manual . Everything can be put back to stock very easy it looks like , but the cross shaft between the wheels is long gone . I won't be getting it for a couple of weeks till I have time to get a trailer up there as it's about 75 miles from here near the Minn. border by I-35 . I live a few miles east of Clarksville which is due south of Charles City about 18-20 miles . Take care , Randy-IA

Rick,

Tell me about your 207 rake and semi mount plow when you can please. I have a 107 rake and 620 baler. They work well and the neighbor has expressed interest in getting one. I saw you note.

Thanks,

Dave

I forgot to mention last night with your 1755, if the oil drops any lower, get it in the shop ASAP. Our 1755 ran on low psi also, ended up blowing the motor. Never took it apart yet, but I know it can't be good. Only thing I'm glad for is that it didn't add the traditional 310 vent hole. Seems to me the 1755's as of late have a worse rep than the 1855's.

Hi, I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst for my 1755 . I have a lead on a Perkins from a combine . Is it the 1755 or 1855 that it's a cinch to swap engines ? I thought that since they use the same Waukesha block they would have the same frames ? I have the three speed and dual range pto with engine speed pto outlet if that makes a difference ? Otherwise I'm going to have it worked on this winter if it doesn't go south first :.] Thanks , Randy-IA

You're thinking of the 1850's, they had the 6-354 perkins put in. The 55's all have the 310 block. So does the 1750 and 1950T. Perkins are great engines, we have a 285 Massey, perkins 4-318 in it. Almost 6000 hrs, just getting time for an overhaul. That used to be our big tractor for many years, then our 1755 for about 5 years now the 1855. Back to your Perkins question, the 3 speed and all that don't really matter. Just have to try and find an 1850 tub and bellhousing that bolts onto the 3 speed, as the perkins and waukeshaw bolt patterns are different. I have never done a repower yet, hope to someday to the 1755 with a 5.9. Until then, it could be sitting for a while. I want a new TRUCK.

Randy,
Is your 1755 a diesel? I think they used the same engine as the 1855. You might want to read the link below at the Old Oliver Gang site.

Yes , it's a diesel . I might try that trick but I think I'm going to get it worked on this winter anyway if it doesn't blow first .Thanks , Randy-IA

Hi, Thanks ! I would like to know how it stands against the more common older balers . I think I'm going to plow up my new , just planted this spring , hay field , because I didn't get it mowed till last monday . The grass and weeds where over 5 feet tall . A buddy came over with a real dull rotory cutter and flattened the whole field . Now it's a tangled mess (OOPS). I'm going to try and get in there with my "new" 415 sickle and see what happens . I'm going to look at a 207 rake tomorrow . If the balers are any good I'm going to keep an eye out for one but that won't be this year . Have too much repair work to do on this dump we bought . Besides custom baling shouldn't be over $100 "here" ;>] Thanks , Randy-IA

We have an Oliver rolabar rake, 2 wide front wheels and 2 small tail wheels offset to the right side. It's missing a roller for one of the bars so we havn't used it in many years. When it did work, it rolled the hay too tight and it wouldn't dry very well. We also have an Oliver 565 3-16 semi-mount plow and an Oliver running gear with a busted steering link. I know they made other implements such as balers, moco's, choppers etc... I also know they had some SP chopper units made by Koering Co., so they use the same heads interchange with later Fox choppers.

I've got a 620 baler that just ppput up about 700 nice tight bales of oat straw. Love it! I've also got an Oliver rollbar rake, but haven't been able to figure out the model. The bars bolt on to the bearings, and the bearings are held in place by sort of rounded diamond shaped 3/16" pressed steel. Some have been replaced with thicker "blocks" the same shape. I'm needing some bearings, but so far no luck finding them. As the other post said, it seems to roll too tight. Larry
