I saw this tractor at the Lynden, Washington show on Friday. Is this a rare tractor? I hadn't seen one before and I can't seem to find one in my Oliver books. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Also, hope this picture link works

The front wheel hydraulic assist on an Oliver tractor is considered to be hardest of the Oliver tractors to find. A real collectors item. According to Lyle Dumont there are only about 5 in collectors hands that he knows of but the 1950-T in Washington is the only 1950-T so equipped known to exist so it is extremely rare. Lyle Dumont has a 1950 with the hydraulic front wheel assist. Most of them are 1650 models. The hydraulic front wheel assist is covered in the Oliver book by Larry Gay and if you are an Oliver fan you should have that book. It's probably the best single source reference book regarding Oliver tractors. The hydraulic assist is an amazingly sophisticated system. The mechanical FWA was more robust but the hydraulic FWA had three distinct advantages over the mechanical FWA. High clearance, adjustable width and excellent turning radius.

Yep, the Larry Gay book does mention it was available, but doesn't give any info on it. Your posting and jmeyer, gave me the info I was looking for. Thanks.

My father owned a 1950T with front wheel assist, and it was the biggest lemon he ever owned. He had horrible troubles with the engine, blowing it up twice in one year. Needless to say, dont bring up the 1950T around dad, its a very sore subject. They do look neat, and I remember how tall it was when I was little to crawl up onto it:) Oh yeah, by the way, our 1950T had the Hydra Power, not the Over/Under as well. Found that to be an interesting option on that unit.

Ours was a mechanical, not hydraulic fwa. I didnt see that until this morning. I dont think there were many with either front wheel assist, regardless.
