2255 hydraulic cooling pump question

Started replacing the hydraulic pump on our 2255 and found the shaft loose (lots of play, all directions) on the housing that hold the cooling pump. Also found a piece of the housing resting below the shaft. I took out the housing and about 3/8's shaft movement in and out. I also have another one of these from an 1855, which is in good shape and tight. I did notice the gears appeared different and found the one from the 1855 to have 25 teeth while the old one from the 2255 had 26 teeth. Do I have to find used 26 tooth housing and pump or can I transfer the old gear and pump to the 1855 housing? Haven't really worked on these two much, but I am glad I didn't just try to force it in. Thanks for your help.

You need to use the shaft with 26 teeth. The engine RPM on the 2255 is higher and you need the correct ratio so as not to overspeed the pump. The housings should be the same. WB.
