If anyone is going to the auction at Narmont Machinery in Illinois this weekend, I am willing to pay a finders fee and costs for the following. I am in desperate need of a working or non-working Char lynn power steering unit for my 1959 Oliver 550. It is part number S-102 A, B, C or D. Actually, I only need a few of the guts inside (control and power shafts) but I will take any parts if they can be found. If you are going, I sure would appreciate you looking for me. I can provide exploded diagrams if it helps. My cell phone number is 973-477-8547. Please call or reply via email. Thanks, Mike in NJ.

Thanks to all for the replys and offer to help. I only just learned about the auction so the short notice didn't help. I looked like an amazing auction if you wanted to see the good, bad and ugly of a guy who could not throw anything out. Ooops, that sounds a bit like me!

Then if it was bringing scrap prices you should have bought it and you could have made a killing by going and getting your local yocal to sell it. I thought that it was the best run dealer liquidation of that size that I have been to. He would not want to sell your pile of crap and crap brings crap prices. That is what that stuff was worth. This is why he just sold a Harley sign for $45000 and a toy horse the weekend before for $30000. Go to aumannauction.com and check the results. You have not been to to many auctions like this have you. I went to this auction from Pennsylvania and I saw two other guys there from pa, do you think if some "local yocal docal" auctioneer would have had it that people travel 800+ miles for an auction or even knew about it. You need to get out and learn what stuff is worth and that pile of junk that you have in the back yard is not a pile of gold. We might have been at a different auction but I saw three magazines bring $175 and 6 brochures bring $275. There was also the 12 spark plugs that brought $125, a grill flip guard bring $125, and a S99 parts book bring over $100, so I guess it is how you look at things. Most every thing that I saw that was in the other ring was junk and that included the combines. I went to an auction last fall near st. louis that had probally 15 of the nicest old combines that you have ever seen and they worked and they brought no more than $400. There was money at this auction because the UDLX brought over $110,000 and an orchard oliver 77 brought $20,000. Aumann has this auction and the stuff brings more guaranteed once again check his results they are posted on his site.

The combines were iron and went to the scrap guys. It's not like they were running and working. I don't think there was anyone except Aumann's that could have pulled that auction off. They know what is what when it comes to antique machinery. I heard they only had a month to put it together. A friend of mine lives near there.

not the auctioneers fault, people have been trying to buy some of that stuff for years, would not sell it. What more than likley happened, the people that owned Narmont probably did not to spend the money to do an advertsing campaing like Aumann Auctions do. If you want old farm equipment sold, he is top shelf, he normally does a great job.

Kurt and the guys did a very good job with how it was organized. They let all the junk in one ring and had the stuff that would bring money in the other. If you looked at how they did the manuals which is what I paid attention to they had a box with a couple of good pieces ie tractor parts books or a couple of Better Farmings in it and they filled the rest with junk books. So instead of putting all of the good books in one box like the tractor parts books in one box they spead them out and got more money. Kurt has a national auction reputation and did a very good job. They had a ton of stuff to sell and got it done. I have been to 5 or 6 dealer liquidations in the past year and this was the hardest one to pick up bargins. This is my two cents but having the manuals, NOS parts, and good tractors in one ring and the junk in the other was the way to go. If they had been able to advertise this better with a little advance booking they could have done even better.

The other stuff like parts books and what not did very well. No one buys combines anymore to hard to haul and what not. I bought stuff to resell but not the bargins that I have ran into before. The combines and other stuff was more made up for in the price of the memorabilia. Three better farming magazines were fetching 100 and up to probally 175. How times have changed when a magazine brings more than a combine. I only stayed two hours because I already had spent more money than I should and figured if I stayed that it would be a long trip back to PA with out the wife.
