My oliver 1650 can use two different types of oil filters. One has some kind of bypass and the other dosent. Is there an advantage over one or the other. Thanks for the input.

They both have valves. The gas ones have a valve built into the filter. The diesel ones have the valve built into the base on the tractor.

A 1650 only has one oil filter, however there is a difference between the filter used on the gas engine and the diesel engine.. They will not interchange. What filter are you looking at.

Well I always just took the old one in and got one to match. This time I went in with out it and the parts man said there were two that would fit it and one had the bypass. It got me thats why I asked THE PROS here. Thanks for the info.

PS what about the oil type straight 30 or multi weight and is Rotella T ok. I never here any one say anthing about it here.

I use Rotella T 15w 40 (with soot control ) in my three Olivers and have never had any problems . I am in Upstate SC where the temperature in summer can get up to 100 and in the winter rarely gets below 20 . A friend of mine is a former Oliver certfied mechanic and he says Rotella T is best oil for Olivers but of course that is his opinion . Others may think differently .
