Hi fellas. Dad used to own an Oliver 77. He said it was green with white wheels and grill. Is this correct? I see white once in a while and on later models like 770 etc. Weren't the early ones red wheels and yellow grill? Always confused me, but I never asked anyone about it. Our pulling club seems to be taken over by Oliver! I don't mind one bit.

When the Oliver 66, 77, & 88's were new they had red wheels and a yellow grill. The Super 66, 77, & 88's had green wheels and a yellow grill until 1957 when Oliver changed back to red wheels and yellow grill. When the 660, 770, & 880's came out the body was called Meadow green and the wheels & grill were Clover white. The 770 & 880's had a front that was more squared but the 660 retained the same grill as the 66 & Super 66 had used. As a result some farmers at that time had their older tractors painted to look like a 660 so it looked more like a new tractor.

A bit of clarification on the grill for the 770 and 880. The early 770s and 880s had the grill with the horizontal bars. The later ones had a grill with horizontal and vertical bars and square or rectangle openings. I don't remember when the change took place.

Also, the early 770s and 880s had the clam shell fenders and the later ones had flat topped fenders.

A bit of clarification on the 3-digit grills. Originally all Oliver produced 3-digit tractors had the flat grill with the horizontal bars except the 660 which retained the Fleetline/Super series style grill. The 550 switched to the checkerboard style grill from 1963-1975, the 770 switched to the checkerboard style grill from 1964-1967 and it also got the flat-top fenders similar to the 4-digit tractors. To the best of my knowledge neither the 880 nor the rest of the 3-digit series ever got the checkerboard grill or the flat top fenders because they were all replaced by 4-digit tractors.
