I didn't think any of the gauges worked on the Oliver 550 I have, but the oil idiot light came on while I was baling.
Is there some way I can check the pressure with a gauge, maybe screw a gauge into the sending unit hole?

I made a test unit that screws into the oil filter lead to the dash. My first 55 pegged out rhile running so I got a oil pressure gauge connected it to a short section of copper tubing to fit and found that the engine had the correct 20# pressure. Have used this unit on many tractors to verify.

Yep. Or into any plugged drillings into the main oil gallery.

Since the tractor is 100 miles away on the farm, I wonder if anybody would know what size thread is in the oil sending unit? Is it pipe thread?

Then I can by an oil gauge and adapter when I go down this weekend.

1/8 inch pipe thread. Get a street ell or a tee and a nipple if you want to hook up the gauge and the sender. Check it cold and hot also at idle.
