The 30 rear end is a Detroit or Timken built unit. The 40 is a Cockshutt design.

Don,
The 30 trans and rear end are MUCH DIFFERENT from the 40/50. The 35, 560-570-570S are similiar to the 40/50. If you do anything with a 40/50 trans. pay very close attention to the numbers that are stamped into the trans housing, just above the side fill plug. NOT all 40/50 trans. have the exact same parts inside. I would not recommend ANY KIND of a DIY match to a 30.

As far as the same, no. Will they bolt up I don't know. The 35,40 and 50 are the same.
