Have Oliver 2255 with major gear oil leak from front end of transfer case, where FWD shaft comes out. Any solution OTHER than taking unit off and rebuilding ?

Probably just your seal went out. Unhook the front driveshaft, take the joint off the shaft and replace the seal, should not be that hard to do.

Thanks-
So, I can unbolt the front of the transfer case--and nothing will fall out, taking a few weeks to sort out ??

Should be no need to take the front off the transfer case. The seal is a simple lip seal and you can get it out from the front without taking the cover off the transfer case. In fact I dont think you can take the cover off without splitting the tractor, I dont think there is enough room in the frame to do that.

Good Luck

Hopefully just a seal replacement will take care of it, but make sure to inspect the sealing surface on the shaft itself. If there is a significant groove worn into the shaft by the seal, you should repair this sealing surface with a repair sleeve and matching replacement seal. Otherwise, it may still leak with a new seal. Normally this requires removal of the shaft, but you may be able to split the repair sleeve to install it with the shaft in place and use epoxy to fasten the split in the sleeve, giving the seal a renewed surface against which to seal. Good luck.
