Was working ground on the weekend with 2255 when something happened in the transmission. I am guessing that it slipped into two gears at once and stalled the tractor instantly. I started it back up and put the gear shift in neutral but transmission is still in 1st gear. Not sure what the problem is until I can get the cab and trans lid off. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any suggestions to what might have happened?

The gear shift lever is in the neutral position, but tractor is in first gear. Thanks for the replies.

Can you slide shifter to the high side and be in 3rd gear? What gear were you working ground in? We all would like to get diagnosed before you go through trouble of pulling off the cab ,hydraulic housing, trans cover, then find you have to pull the engine out to get any of the trans shafts out.
Where are you located at?

Gear shifter can be moved side to side, but transmission is in 1st gear. I cannot get it out of the top H. Was working ground in 4th.

I've had my 2255 get into two gears at once if I shifted it wrong, but don't remember it happening while just driving. If this is the case and you can't get it right by popping the gear shift with the heel of your hand, you have to take the gear shift lever out, get a long screwdriver and pop it back into place. Real aggravating, as it is sometimes incredibly tight. I never try to speed shift the 2255 like I can other Olivers.

Our 2-150 white with the same rear lost the lower H. All we have now is 3,5,&6th gears. I am assuming a bent shift by the way the shifter feels. It seems like the sliding collar won't slide into the gear. Oh well, we have been just using it for pto work for now until we get time to tear it apart. Sounds like your shifter jumped out of the slot where it belongs in the shift rail. You should be able to gain access to the trans lid by removing the cab floor and take a quick peek. You could also just remove the shifter and align up your shift rails with a long screw driver. Good luck!

My 2255 lost 4th gear last year while running the subsoiler. Found that the oil tube to the upper front bearing had fallen off and the bearing went out. $3500 and a lot of used parts and it is back to running the subsoiler again. I have found a number of 2255's with trany problems.
